Prevention Program Overview
Prevention
Education: The curriculum we use
is "Positive Action", which is a series of lessons that teaches kids how to make healthy choices, good homework habits, how
to refuse peer pressure, among many other positive attitude building lessons. Our
program also includes assorted games and videos that teach students the negative effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.
Our
program is 10-12 weeks, once weekly in the classroom. The lessons are age-appropriate;
we have a different curriculum for each grade level.
The
units in the Positive Action curriculum are
Unit
1: Self-concept: What It Is, How
It’s Formed, and Why It’s Important
Unit
2: Physical and Intellectual Positive Actions for Healthy Body and Mind
Unit
3: Social/Emotional Positive Actions for Managing Yourself Responsibly

Unit
5: Social/Emotional Positive Actions for Being Honest With Yourself and Others

shows that students who receive the Positive Action program improve their grades from pre-program to post-program, and also
lowers the incidence of drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.
